SHIVER KING

The Shiver King is the sovereign horror of the Frozen Wake.  A monarch entombed in ancient ice, older than memory and colder than death.  His form is a towering silhouette of frost and shadow, crowed with jagged shards that pulse with frozen Wake Energy. 

He wields dominion over time and temperature itself, bending reality into stillness.  His gaze alone can freeze a soul in place, locking thought and flesh in eternal paralysis. 

To face the Shiver King means to face an eternity encased in a crystal tomb to bear witness to his reign and suffer a death that will only end with time itself.

The Pale Matron is a towering spectral entity born from grief crystallized by resonance.  Draped in frost-veils and crowned with jagged shardglass, she weeps frozen blood that falls like crimson shards, straining the ice beneath her. 

 

Her presence chills the air and bends time within a localized radius known as the Pale Veil, disorienting squads and slowing their movements to a crawl.

 

Her arrival is heralded by haunting wails.  An endless lament that gnaws at the mind and erodes courage. 

Though immensely powerful, coordinated Warden teams have been known to bring her down, but only at great cost for every strike she lands will cut through sanity as easily as shardsteel. 

PALE MATRON

Glacial Wakeborne are sentient ice constructs borne for the Wakes front line fights that require a strong vicious front.

They resemble humanoid statues with limbs like serrated blades and hollow cores glowing within shardlight. And like their cores and their very essence, they're entirely cold and devoid of any emotions.  

Though slow-moving, their strikes carry devasting force.  Glacials are capable of shattering shardsteel and bone alike.  Their resilience makes them nearly impervious to conventional weapons, only shard forged arms and coordinated Warden tactics can bring these war machines down.

STILLBORN CHOIR

Humans twisted by prolonged exposure to the Frozen Wake, their frost-crusted flesh sprouts jagged shard growths, and hollow cores of shard-ice replace organs.  Gaunt and frostbitten, with veins glowing faintly beneath pale skin, they stagger in tattered remnants of clothing fused with frost.

Their mouths gape, unnaturally wide, emitting harmonic wails that slow down thought and sow despair.  Though slow and clumsy, they are relentless, wandering in groups, clawing with frozen fingers sharpened into hard points and often with several Frostgnashers. 

Alone, they can stall a Warden's mind, in a full choir they can overwhelm the mind all together, making it easier for them to find gaps in the armor.

Apex predators born from the corruption of the Frozen Wake, Frostgnashers prowl the icy wastes with lethal precision.  Their bodies are armored in jagged ice plating, spines of shard-ice jutting along their backs, and glowing shardlight eyes piercing the gloom.  Serrated maws shatter bone with ease, while their breath can cause a corrupt form of frostbite making even a minor wound into a potential death sentence in the Wake. 

Frostgnashers use the snowstorms and terrain for concealment, striking without warning.  Though only 3-4 feet at the shoulder and weighing up to 220lbs, their frost-coated claws and relentless aggression make them an enemy to be extremely warry of.

FROSTGNASHER

Tiny frost mites born from shard-infused spores, Rimcrawlers thrive in the frozen edges of Wake zones. Armored in jagged ice plating with spiked dorsal ridges and glowing shardlight eyes, they skitter silently across snowbanks and cavern walls. Their serrated mandibles are lined with shard crystals, capable of piercing weak points in Warden armor.

Individually weak, they rely on overwhelming numbers.

 

They will mainly attack by biting, gnashing, and swarming until their combined frost resonance freezes flesh and shardsteel alike. Opportunistic hunters, Rimcrawlers ambush from concealment and target isolated or wounded prey first. When the ice begins to move, it’s already too late.

RIMCRAWLERS

Shardcraft in the Frozen Wake is perilous and rare—its secrets guarded by Wardens and Shard Smiths. Among the most coveted resources:

  • Frostvein Crystals – Dense shardglass threaded with icy veins that pulse faint blue light. Forged into charged shots for shardlances and pistols, they unleash frost explosions. When infused into armor, they form glowing vein patterns, grant cold resistance, and slow Wake corruption.

  • Beast Parts – Hides from Wake beasts make exceptional armor, while teeth and claws are prized for specialized arrows by those who still wield bows.

  • Rimcrawler Resin – A hardened secretion used in crafting reinforced surfaces and precision mirrors for Wakebinders.

  • Echoheart Core (Rare) – Found within Glacials or Pale Matron remnants. These cores amplify shardforge stakes, extending their duration from hours to days and enabling them to withstand relentless assaults.

Beyond these, other frost-forged substances remain whispered secrets, undiscovered by the Wardens yet.
